McKee Status Questionable For Game 7

Paul Hamilton arrived in Raleigh Wednesday night and immediately went to work on the hot rumor about Sabres defenseman Jay McKee. Our Sabres beat reporter found out that he was not with the team Wednesday night in Carolina. Sabres team spokesman Mike Gilbert said he is "sick, but it is possible that he can come join the team for game 7."

I sure hope Lydman and Campbell can each handle about 40 minutes of ice time tonight if McKee can't go. Has any othr NHL team ever lost three of its top four defensemen in the same playoff series?

That would be 4 of 6 defensemen out if he cant go because I highly doubt Teppo suits up, and I doubt any team has ever been through that.

Scotty Bowman was on the morning show last week and said they lost 3 defensemen when he coached the Pens in the 90s and they ended up still winning.

McKee's [censored] playing, I'd bet on it. He knows how big this game is, everything I've heard says it's an infection on his leg from blocking so many shots, he has a cut that won't heal.

Update...Numminen did not participate in the AM skate...
...McKee is in route to Carolina now....

Turns out all those [censored] rumors were true. 4 of the Sabres top 5 defenseman are out. Poor Lydman and Campbell. If I were a betting man, I'd get some money on Carolina.

I'm not even excited for the game anymore, and that takes ALOT.

I feel the same way as you. At first I was angry, then depressed, now at this hour it's just so ridiculous it's funny. It's not possible to be more cursed. I just don't understand; why? Why?

20 minutes later, and I've fired myself back up again, but I still have this terrible sick feeling. After all these years, you kind of grow accustomed to something completely out of the Sabres/Bills power to screw you in the end.

I still think McKee sees the ice tonight, in what capacity I have no idea. He's just that much of a warrior. I'm certainly not counting them out at all, but when you are relying on Fitzpatrick and Campbell to play a billion minutes, it's a hard bargain. I think the Sabres forwards have to get it done tonight, and put up 5-6 goals.
