Another thailand thread...where should I live?

Inspired by all the other thailand threads.....

Where should I live?

I want...
-At last some people that speak decent english, but I want to keep the ratio of normal people to 40yr old Brittish guys looking for whores at a minimum.
-I need a Good internet connection to play that sweet sweet game that is allowing me to live there
-I would like nice beaches, particularily one for surfing
-I want to feel safe in and around my house.
-I can afford around $600-1000 for rent but from what I understand living somewhere for $100-$200 would probably be ok, I guess you could say I am pretty bohemian in some ways and feeling rich would be OK, but not necessary.
-is it easy to meet people there to talk to, not just girls but just people to hang out with?
+any other good things about thailand that you guys know that should be on my list. If any knowledge people want to PM me I would like to talk on AIM or something maybe.

i've heard greece is nice. i've never left the US but i'm in the same boat as you. looking for a paradise type place to live with a beach and good people that speak some english.

Everything you have described is thailand in a nutshell; the problem is if you want good net, the islands aren't so amazing. If you want good beaches, you can write off bangkok. I knew an Aussie guy living on Koh Pha Ngan playing 5/10 limit for a living and he had a house and broadband; this sounds pretty ideal for a while...

There is a huge party there every month too, if you dig that. I have a journal at vagrant7.livejournal.com that describes all my experiences so far. I recommend checking it out for a similar persons views on places I've been so far...

How long can you live there for though ? Can't you only stay there for up to 6 months at a time ?

Guam is pretty nice, its got everything on your list though surfing can be dangerous because sharp coral surrounds the island, and if you get bored Thailand isn't too far away.
