I don't think I'd feel bad about getting the best of it from a gas station for once.

[/ QUOTE ]

That will come out of the attendants pay not the owners.

I'm really surprised at the number of people who value their integrity less than they value a hundred bucks.

As a footnote, I didn't tell my husband when I got out to the truck. Would you tell someone waiting outside what had just happened? Have we gotten to the point where we're embarrassed by what should be considered a virtue?

[/ QUOTE ]

Depends on your husband. I always bring up ethics with my gf, because we have fun with it, but there are some people with whom I would not.

Im guessing they arent doing inventory at the end of each shift. The missing cartons probably wont be noticed for a week or so. I think the owners have to eat this one.

Are you serious? I don't think they can legally charge or dock her pay for it unless they take it to court and prove she stole. Go ahead and prove me wrong, I've just never heard of this. She of course can be fired for being an idiot though.

If it is a large store it will be hard to prove it was her. In a small operation, depending on their inventory system she can be held responsible and docked her pay. Check it out with an attendant if you don't believe it.

Yea, I'd probably have noticed it immediately and said something. I'm hopelessly honest though.

Hubby and I both smoke and we live out in the country on 40 acres, so when we make a run to buy cigs, we stock up.

I've bought our cigs online previously, (and got a letter from the state looking for us to pay "usage" taxes after the vendor or UPS gave us up - ignored it - next state letter after deadline says "never mind"), or we've bought cigs in next state at casinos, (but now they've added a new fee that makes it more expensive.)

So, believe it or not, buying them at the gas station is cost effective right now. If you do the math $33.25 per carton for premium brand is pretty cheap compared to the rest of the country.

I'm not defending smoking and wish I'd never started, but I haven't been able to kick the addiction yet.
