I'm looking for some good songs that have violins in them. I'm up for anything. I would prefer music with vocals, but other than that, I'm up for any genre... in fact, I'd probably like to have a wide variety.
thanks in advance -Lane Mcbride |

yellowcard plays watered down pop punk with a violin which plays many melody, as well as lead/solo lines.

nigel kennedy does lots of good stuff with violins. Standard classical stuff. And his jazz project is good too.
The string arrangement to Frozen by Madonna is good too. But that might not be violins. |

search vanessa mae.
she's a violinist who does a wide range of stuff, from fairly traditional performances to more pop oriented stuff to flat out techno with violins. the techno is mostly very dire, but her traditional stuff and her more pop oriented stuff is very good. |

I really like Diplo's Big Lost, it's a sort of instrumental hip hop with a lot of violin.

I have the album you're looking for -- R.E.M.'s "Automatic For the People." It's a pop/rock vocal album by an amazingly talented group where virtually every song has violins/cellos in it. The string arrangements were done by John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. The entire album has a beautifully slow, evocative feel -- for particular tracks, go for "Drive," "Nightswimming," and "Sweetness Follows" for the best violin sounds. All have great vocals as well.
