Ok, thanks as always for the replies. The check struck me as a bit fishy. I'm guessing it was one of two things. 1) He doesn't want to get bluffed out, so he's going into passive calling mode, or 2) he's going to get tricky and go for a check/raise or something like that. I really doubt he would just check/fold there. So I checked behind.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (5 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
3 folds, SB raises, Hero calls.

Flop: (4 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

Turn: (2 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets

Any point in doing anything here other than folding? Is a semi-bluff ever going to work enough to be worth it? Can I call profitably here? It's very possible my non-spade pair outs are clean too (or is it?).

Eh, I don't hate a call, but I just fold.

foldtastico

you have no idea where you're at, no idea if your outs are any good, and the pot is tiny. i'd find a better spot.

What's the best plan here?

I'd bet. But I wouldn't have called the preflop raise in the first place. 85, even suited, -- ugh, not good enough. The value of suitedness is at it's lowest against only one opponent compared to any other number of opponents. It's not connected, it's not a one gapper, it's a two gapper - and it's Eight high. Garba`ge.

I agree. Weakish preflop but likes his hand and overaggressive postflop doesn't sound good for a small suited hand.
