tell me what you think of splitting 'a&e' into a separate forum

i skimmed the thread, but haven't read all of the posts. surely, there must be some data from when sports, politics, etc. split off from oot. pageviews per forum over time, pageviews for the whole site over time so we can normalize things, etc. right? did someone post that stuff and i just missed it?

Remember, though, we don't care about the more discerning OOTiots, or any OOTiots, for that matter. We care about the interests of theoretical forum browsers that cower in fear of the OOT monolith. Placing "A&E" in thread titles would make it much easier to search for such threads, and would allow these timid creatures to dicuss Faust or Japanese cinema without the fear that they may stumble upon a thread concerning sex or jokes.

I vote for splitting. OOT is just too big and it's sad how the A&E stuff gets burried.

I think OOT is the perfect place for stuff like
-how many 5 year olds
-color of a tennis ball
-this girl just stepped on my toe, does that mean she likes me?

OOT should truly be Other Other Topics, not Movies, Music, and Other Other Topics.

Also, stop calling it "splitting." The proper term should be "creating." We should create a new forum for A&E, because it's not about pulling anything much away from OOT to do so, we'd be adding more...

What about a rule about off-topic threads? Mods can ask the OP if they want to move the thread to the appropriate forum or if they want it to stay in OOT. Then it's the OP's choice. It shows a preference for keeping A&E topics in an A&E forum and Sports in Sports and so on and so forth, but it doesn't change OOT from being a place where anyone can post just about anything.
