A lot of the posts in politics would never stay on the front page if they weren't in they're own forum

Please. OOT, OT at the time, was a desolate wasteland totally strangled by politics. I called it the Israel forum since on a daily basis Israel and middle east related threads simply grew and grew and choked everything down. It wasn't until Politics got it's own forum that the incarnation you see today really began to seriously take shape.

I just wanted to add, there is one type of movie/tv/music post that doesn't get flushed away quickly in OOT, and I'd think would be better in OOT than an Ents forum because of the volumes in OOT: polls.

If the politics forum vanished do you think it would go back to taking over the OOT Forum?
Is OOT today different than OOT of yesterday?

OOT today is obviously different. But you severely underestimate the level of disruption politics could cause to OOT if they re-combined. I'd guess that within a month, OOT traffic would be cut by at least a third.

movies, tv, music, books, that sort of thing.

the pro-splitters believe lots of people would love to discuss the subjects but won't do so in oot.

it's not because of ooters saying, "man i just can't go 30 seconds without seeing another tv show discussed!"

traffic-wise oot is the biggest forum on 2+2 by a mile. as far as it giving "oot haters" more ammo, i will stick up for it personally.

several mods have started talking about the idea so i wanted to solicit your input.

If we arent allowed to talk about politics, sports, religion, philosophy, books, film, music, or television, what is left to talk about? It will be nothing but guys lying about their sexual escapades.

As for the thread itself: tl;dr.

I kinda see OOT as a breeding ground for new forums. A&E would be a good one, and Dominic probably deserves his own forum like "Ask Dan Druff" on that neverwin site. "Ask Dom" would be a popular hang out for those who live vicariously through Dom's memories.

OOT should theoretically die (at some point), except to be a place where people actively try to come up with posts that are so weird that they have no other place. When they start to take shape as recurring themes and related discussions, they get spawned off into new forums. A star is born.

Sports was a good split, and Politics was a good split.

Bad Idea...

Politics/Sports/Films/Music...all removed....Sports and politics I understand....but......not films and music....

OOT will become an agony-aunt type place...Or a Brag posting "haven"...

So I think leave it as it is...

let's split it like this: topics that only require the intellectual capacity and maturity of a chimp and those that require more than that.

raisins,

"So, what's important to 2+2? If the number of clicks the site gets and the ad revenue is a major concern then don't split. If they are sick of the atmosphere at OOT (and I don't think it's that bad, just a bit tedious) and want a tighter smaller community and don't care about the people who only come for OOT then do the split."

That sounds about right.
