he threw a steamig cup of coffee into the face of another player on the first day and the guy sued him for half his winnings. i think they just settled out of court for a bit less.

This sounds like a joke.

I thought he promised a friend half of his winnings, and decided he didn't want to pay up. Of course, there was probably no signed contract giving the guy ownership of half of Jamie's winnings, so I don't know what the deal is. I also heard they settled out of court.

That's correct. According to my high placed source (The Attack of the Show ticker-from G4 tv) Jaime promised his producer friend half of his winnings if he could get him into the WSOP and his friend was able to do just that. Just recently, Jaime finally agreed to give up half his winnings.

I guess his friend wasn't interested in Jaime's previous offer of blueberries for life.

Gold tried to get a free seat from Bodog at the WSOP for a "friend". Since that didn't work, he wanted to make the guy feel better and promised him to share the winnings from his seat.

After he won, the guy sued him for 6 million.

I don't know the verdict, but I assume the US comedy court went crazy like usual. In Europe, where we have reasonable rulings on such issues, the guy would have gotten half of the expected value from that seat at best. Judging Gold's skill, it amounts to something like $3,75 before taxes.

I don't believe any court would base a ruling on expected value after the event played out. If Gold had busted out, would the other guy have a case that Gold owed him $5K? Of course not.

The "expected value" is now $6 million with zero variance.

You have the facts wrong too. Have you listened to the telephone recording?
