I searched and didn't find anything worthwhile, so I'm asking.
How do non-standard (standard being: BB = 1 small bet, SB = 1/2 or 1/3 small bet) blind structures affect the way you should play a small stakes game? My first (and unfortunate) casino experience, the 3/6 game had a $3 "blind" on the button I was never very clear if this was entirely "rake" or just a forced button blind or what in place of the collection at the higher limits.. but as a result I think I played almost every button hand I was dealt, even after someone else raised. (that can't be good play..) Is the general idea when you have things like this to treat it as a button hand that you have nothing invested in and fold your mediocre hands after a raise, or is it worth defending them more often because you have position? Should I just mostly consider that $3 on the button to be useless money and fold all but the hands SSHE recommends playing after a raise on the button anyway? What are some other blind structures casinos use that are worth adjusting your normal gameplay for? SSHE doesn't really go into any detail about games that aren't the plain vanilla blind structure, so I'm a little confused by it all. It seems like that extra forced blind every round is going to eat away at you regardless... and sucker some people (me!) into more pots that they otherwise wouldn't play? (good strategy for the casino I suppose..) Is there a general guide somewhere that explains non-standard rake structures, and possibly what casinos use what? I'm going to Reno next month, I'd like to be prepared rather than have to adjust on the fly if possible... |

You have to call with a lot of hands from a button blind (or a straddle from CO). Start with hands recommended in SSHE for calling a raise in the BB. I would then add a lot of suited hands, all suited As and all PP. There are a lot of playable hands in that situation just be careful of those that are easily dominated like A2o K9o. I think there is a section in HPFAP about playing from the live late position straddle, check that out.
