i don't remember if we've done this yet, and it didn't turn up in a search, so...
What's your favorite opening thirty-forty seconds of a song? A song where as soon as it comes on it's instantly identifiable? My picks: Ticket To Ride - The Beatles Perhaps the first use of feedback as an intentional piece of the song in popular music. Just Like Heaven - The Cure The most deleriously infectious opening in pop music history, IMO. It just builds and builds and builds until Robert Smith's vocals finally, breathlessly, joins in. Just What I Needed - The Cars duh duh duh duh DAAA duh duh duh duh DAAA duh duh duh duh DAAA DAAA...! Greatest bass line opening ever. yours? |

N.I.B. - Black Sabbath
The Les Claypool version has a better intro bass riff than the original. |

[/ QUOTE ] FYP Hotel California is indeed a good one, but it might only be good because you're looking forward to the rest of the song. Also, "Fly Like an Eagle" might be the best acoustic intro... -ChipsAhoya |

[/ QUOTE ] I could have picked songs from that album,. but every single second of the album is so [censored] awesome that its just not right to differentiate. There was a thread a while back about best guitar solos, and I was the only one who mentioned Tom Verlaine's final solo on Marquee Moon. Very sad. |
