Default Official NHL 2006 Off-Season Thread

Figured we need a place to discuss what happens at the NHL Draft, and qualifying offers are due to free agents by Monday next week. July 1st is when free agents are eligible to sign with any team.

Here's a great site for 2006 Free Agents - it's pretty accurate: 2006 NHL Free Agents

Today's news: Joe Sakic signed a 1-year deal rumored to be worth 5.75 million to stay in Colorado.

No, but speculation is that it will be around $44 million (US). I believe the figure is set to be announced later this week.

Rumour has it the Leafs will overpay for a bunch washed up stiffs. Half the city will rejoice and half will cry but all of them will wish they could get their mitts on season tickets for a reasonable price.

LOL - that's not a rumor, that's a fact.

AceHawk, thefourthperiod has been pretty much discredited - this guy got one thing right and has been riding off it ever since. His 'rumors' are mostly in his head I think.

Default Luongo for Bertuzzi.

From TSN :

The Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers have completed a multi-player trade involving some big names on the eve of the NHL Draft.

The Panthers have confirmed that they acquired Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen and Alexander Auld from the Canucks in exchange for Roberto Luongo and Lukas Krajicek.

Big news - I like the deal for both sides. Luongo is only an RFA for one more season, and Bertuzzi really won't drag the Panthers' cap situation down since the Panthers won't be good for another three seasons. It's a win-win trade.

Also: Rod Brind'Amour signed to 5 year deal worth 18 million dollars. Bad deal - B'A is getting 3 years at 4M and 2 years at 3. Those last two years he will not be worth that money.

Who cares, the Sharks will win the Cup next year.

Rumors for the Sharks, POSSIBLY trading Nabby before the no-trade clause kicks in... Owen Nolan returning... Korky returning...

Looks like Scott Thornton is leaving.

Ooops, I didn't mean to say "Who cares" to that!! I meant it to the offseason. I officially hate the Panthers now. I think the Canucks got a steal here. Although, I don't know much about the D-players swapped. Anyone have more info on the D exchange?

SPORTSNET REPORTS THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS HAVE DEALT FORWARD TODD BERTUZZI, DEFENCEMAN BRYAN ALLEN AND GOALIE ALEX AULD TO THE FLORIDA PANTHERS IN EXCHANGE FOR GOALTENDER ROBERTO LUONGO, DEFENCEMAN LUKIS KRAJICEK AND A 6TH ROUND PICK!
