On PTI they were saying that the reports are saying this was racially motivated and that the raped woman said they were screaming racial slurs at her while raping her and a neighbor also overheard the racial slurs. I get the feeling this story is gonna be huge by the end of the weekend.

It will, but still won't be as huge as it should be.

I agree with this.

I watch MSNBC a lot and they only mentioned this briefly in one news show. The only channel that is really covering this story like crazy is ESPN.

If it was a white woman being raped by black men every channel would be devoting hours and hours to this. Every MSNBC show would have a segment on it. Its just a different reaction.

What are your personal feelings on the media coverage the two different rape scenarios receive? The reason I ask is because you just matter of factly state that one would receive more media coverage than the other. We all recognize this but what is needed is people sticking up for what is right and not just thinking and acting with the masses.

If you want to see the differences think of the Nathalie Holloway case. I saw that whole case unfold from beginning to end on MSNBC. For the first 2 weeks since it was first reported every show would mention it in some way, shape or form. The first week was really crazy; every show was about the case. There was no exception to this, every single show would tackle an angle of it. One would go into talking to the family of the victim. The following 1 hour news show would talk with the cops there. Then the following show would talk to some of the reporters there. Every single person involved with the case got air time and you pretty much knew everything that was going on non stop. I have been watching MSNBC since yesterday and so far I have only seen one of the talk shows there that had a 5 minute segment on the Duke case with one of the cops working on the case, but nothing crazy.

If it was a white woman raped by black men, the girl would be all over the press and the guys would be all over the press too. We would know just about everything there is to know about the case. Right now ESPN has reported a few things as has MSNBC and FOX, but we don’t even have complete information as to who might have done it. Who in the team had any criminal background that might have come into play. Who has had behavior problems, or reported anger problems that might have come into play. Who matches the description by the victim? There are a lot of questions that just haven’t been answered that would have been if it would have been a white woman raped by black men.

I find it disturbing that to this day people are biased like this. Its 2006, WTF. I can’t believe some people still look at the color of someone's skin before deciding whether they should give a damn about right and wrong.
