A sim index of 50 is pretty high. Choi fits a pretty common typology: big slow guy, late-count hitter, lots of power. As you've pointed out, a lot of these guys peak a little bit late. I'd tend to have more confidence in a breakout forecast when it's associated with a high similarity score like this one.

The catch-22 is that Choi's performance seems to be strongly correlated with his job security. He does well in a regular platoon role, okay when used more sporadically, and terribly as a pinch-hitter. Still an outstanding pick-up for the Sox, but he might have made more sense for a team like the D-Rays.
