Choi's hit .253/.361/.463 when not pinch hitting over the past three years. Most of that is in the pitchers' parks in Miami and Los Angeles. He's been a terrible pinch hitter, but a lot of players struggle with that task, particuarly hitters like Choi that rely on working the count.

That .253/.361/.463 line, with no alteration or improvement, would be better than about half the starters in the American League. Certainly better than Conine (BAL), Broussard (CLE), Mientkiewicz (KC), Lee (TB). Comparable to Morneau (MIN), Johnson (OAK) and Overbay (TOR). Very probably better than Kotchman (LAA), although Kotchman might be better long-term.
