i cash out about half of my profits each month so my bankroll will carry on growing. it's at about 11k atm so still a long way to go before i get to the magic 20k mark when i will move up

Actually it's 50 buyins for NL400. I prefer to move up more liberally. Just replace one of your regular tables with a well-selected table from the next level. If you run good/get comfortable, replace another. Just play NL200 when you can't find any good NL400 tables. You should be able to do this pretty safely with a $11k roll.

but poker is my only source of income atm, so i have to be more careful. plus i want to make sure i am a winning player at NL200 before i move up
