tenth year corporate lawyer at huge firm, making 250k a year doing deals says to me company x (trading at $13 a share) is a bigger company than company y (trading at less) because it has a higher stock price.

i ask her how many shares are outstanding and she looks at me like i'm an alien and she says what does it matter, company x has a higher stock price.
