uhh i'm sticking my neck out here since i don't know stocks very well, but isn't this a sunk cost? it shouldn't matter that you've lost money on the stock already - what makes you the most money from here on out is most important. so in this case, you make more money by selling the shares to the gentleman now and then buying back the shares (or even extra shares) at market price than you do by simply holding on to your original shares.
