i always tend to think that when it comes to cars vs global warming, esp in the u.s, the problem isn't the fossil fuel motors, but the cars themselves....
really, may the automobile-centric cultute/infrastructure in amreica be more of a symptom of a problem than the problem itself? a vast majority of the communities and cities here make car ownership a requirment of first-class citizenship, and no matter what cars run on, it takes a helluva lot of oil/coal, etc to build and fuel/charge them, no? when was the last time you walked to the store or used public transit? could you do so efficiently, even if you wanted too? the design of our communities makes this very rare.
also, i aggree with nonfiction, generally, market forces are the onlt ones that can really effect change, though govt subsities (like tax breaks for efficient design) that manipulate those market forces can stimulate such change like kick-starting a bike. sometimes.
