1. Trying to take the pot away since he showed weakness.

2. Getting money in the pot with my double gutter and overcard, in case my card(s) come, my pot will be bigger.

I mean, the guy only bet 6 on the flop and checked the turn. Seems pretty weak to me. Turns out he was terribly slowplaying a big hand on the turn, when an obvious check raise would have been the right play here.
