I was always picked at the beginning, but that had alot more to do with being well-liked but helped that I was arguably one of the best all round sportsmen in my year @ school (fwiw, 180 Boys in my year as I went to an all boys school)

Basketball (Picked as I was decent shooter, decent basic skills and lack of people who played)
Rugby (Speed and Kicking)
Badminton
Pretty much any sport I was in the top 4-5 pick....
