Re: Tony Mejia ranks the top 50 current NBA players

i don't agree with people who think there's any chance boozer won't maintain or get better. pounding the boards, getting putbacks and hitting 15 footers is not the kind of stuff that comes and goes. he drastically changed his offseason training regimen 2 summers ago and he's become a different player from the guy he was in cleveland. he's a lock top tennish guy.

I don't necessarily disagree. Last year could've been a breakout year. But I don't see why you're dismissing the possibility that it was just a fluke year. Are you really suggesting that nobody whose game relies upon crashing the boards, getting putbacks, and hitting 15 footers has ever had a year that was way above their other years and then come back down to earth the next year before???
Boozer's numbers the past 4 years:
03-04: 15.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 52.3% shooting
04-05: 17.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 52.1% shooting
05-06: 16.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 54.9% shooting
06-07: 20.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 56.1% shooting
Viewing this, would it really be that much of a surprise if Boozer fell back to 18 points, 10 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 54% shooting next year?
YOu want a good example? Take a look at Elton Brand's 05-06 year...the previous two years he had averaged 20.0 points exactly and he had never before averaged more than 20.1. Then all of a sudden in 05-06 he put up just under 25 points per game with the highest FG% of his career. What happened the next year? Back down to 20.5 ppg.
And after the 05-06 season everyone was way overrating Brand, talking about him as a mvp candidate and one of the top players in the league.
All I'm saying is that I want to see more than one year from the guy before he goes higher on my list.
