I'm going to guess this is a joke. Why would I imply that?

Here we have an individual who was drunk for several years consecutively, then somehow became a junkie, and now has apparently put his life back together. How can that not be anything but interesting and inspirational? And how could it possibly lead to people thinking "lolz I'm gonna become an alkie and junkie too, doesn't sound like such a bad time"? Harrowing stories from ex-addicts are among the best deterrents.
