Re: How much does someone make for being sponsored by a poker site?
I know this is obvious, but...
when they signed joe, they werent signing him because of who he is.
they didnt even sign him because he was a main event winner.
they signed him because he would be the third consecutive main event winner to be signed with stars; and it would therefor buy them the identity of being known as THE world series of poker site, even if it wasnt official.
stars signing joe was a lot more valuable than, say, UB signing joe. He isnt a big draw by himself. But he is a piece of a bigger puzzle that, when completed, makes legitimate pokerstars claim to being the official world series of poker poker site. Having the 3 consecutive main event winners does this for them.
Was he worth 7 million to have him signed for the year proceeding his win? I think there's no question that he was. The residual effects of him being signed that year are huge. The people who start playing on stars will most likel continue to play on stars. And they continue to benefit from all those new people who signed up during that time frame.
Did he get paid that much? probably not.
Clearly he isnt worth 7 million EACH YEAR. He is worth very little right now.
