Fold equity is how much pressure you put your opponents on to fold. Or the chances of a bet picking up the pot here and now.

EG 1, You are the BB and there are 5 limpers, You raise the minimum - to 2XBB. Here you have zero fold equity, as you have no chance of picking the pot up.

EG 2, You are the BB and it is folded to the SB who just calls. You are both holding very big stacks, and you push all-in. Here you have masses of fold equity, you have a massive chance of picking the pot up as villain can only call with AA, maybe KK, very little else depending upon the player.
