Eugene's life sucks and the 2 million wasn't going to change a thing. Tony and his crew had him by the balls...he's 50 and not even a captain, forced to take orders from Christopher. So he's stuck in what is basically a [censored] dead-end job. The feds had him even further by the balls...if he was cooperating that means they had him on a pretty devastating charge, and with Curto's death he was going to be more and more in the spotlight with that. And his wife is just phenomenally pissy...she wasn't going to be happy with a nice house in Jersey. Plus, his kid was addicted to cocaine. It certainly wasn't going to get any better for him.

Read the selection I quoted, but first take out the end of the first sentence: "and the 2 million wasn't going to change a thing." With those ten words struck, the paragraph makes sense. The only way out is the end of a rope.

Now, add $2M to the paragraph. If I'm going to abandon my job, my family, the FBI, life as I know it...a beach in Tahiti sounds much more attractive than doing the Jitterbug two feet off the ground.
