this is standard move from some players to prove their intelligence and ability to play tricky poker.
Bottom line if the 6 helped him here the only logical cards he had preflop were 45 of diamonds or pocket 6's. Not much else makes sense and therefore his checkraise is trickiness(ie bad poker).
So given the newness to the table and the outside chance he does hit his set/straight here I call for showdown.
The tough question is do you bet the river if he checks it? Again being new to table I probably call and mark this hand down in my notes.
