luckyjimm, I know all of the "football" players that you just listed and many more than very few Americans would know and could pick them out of a lineup pretty easily. Also, Europe just doesn't have a big population (neither does the U.S.) so the focus should be on Asia, mainly China and India.
I have been operating under the assumption that this is face recognition and not name recognition. If its the other way around then it changes my answers a lot. Bush jumps way up in that case as does the Pope since he is only known as Pope XXX. I doubt most people in non-European countries would recognize Bush if they passed him in plain clothes. The number would probably be much higher for Jordan. Also, McCartney is probably a lot lower than he would have been a decade ago. Just too many people after his era alive now.
