Your situation is far from unique. Lots of people have had their hand inappropriately killed because of the perception that exposing your cards equals your hand is dead. This notion is the result of the large influx of stupidity into the poker world. A few cardrooms even make it a specific rule, even tho TDA rules say that you may be assessed a penalty if you do this, NOT "your hand is dead." What can I say except "welcome to friggin' disneyland."
