you are misinformed, i'm no redneck or southern pride freak but southern schools aren't awful by any means. UF is among the top public universities in the country, UVA is a great school as well (though i admit that's in the northernish south) i know those are just two examples but there are many more, and though the north does have the IVYS, there are still a lot of smart kids down south that stay south for college (usually cause they get a free ride to their state school)
