Because you're looking at 2 year commitment to a 60-70 hour work week in order to get a position (not guaranteed) that may have the same or even more obligations.

Excellent point. The promotion will cut my hours for sure, but not to a normal 40-hour week. More like 50-55 hours. As for "better off" financially, my income would quintuple to seven figures. But I'm perfectly content with what I make now. It will not be signficantly more interesting than it is now, but it is already very interesting.
