Re: Types of bread you eat
Kyle,
Generally just look for any whole wheat or whole grain stuff, as you'll get better quality complex carbs at a lower calorie level. As you know carbs are very important, but most people are surprised to find out exactly how many calories their standard carbohydrates are delivering. If you make yourself a sandwich with regular whole wheat bread, you're going to get around 250 cals from the bread alone, and if you're eating 6 meals a day, that's gonna catch up with you fast.
I personally shop specifically for items that are physically smaller, not just generally healthier. Two lifesavers for me are any of the several brands of multi-grain or whole wheat MINI bagels (usually about 120 cals for 1 bagel, which when combined with egg beaters and salsa is a great day starter at about 220 cals), and the specific brand "La Tortilla Factory" tortillas, which taste just fine, are multi grain, and only have 80 cals (as opposed to the 160 or so that is in a regular tortilla). I don't know your specific diet, but it would probably be wise for you to cut out "lunch meat sandwiches", and replace it with a wrap using La Tortilla Factory wraps.
All that said, I like the taste of whole wheat and multi-grain over pretty much anything that you can find in a supermarket. Stay away from white!
