Re: WPT Season 4: Mirage Poker Showdown (3/8)
The one thing that really stood out to me about this episode, in relation to the previous seasons, was the amount of times people got up and walked away from (or around) the table during a hand...
I mean, you expect to see people walking away from the table while celebrating, or after a bad beat. But these guys were making their bets, and leaving the table while their opponent was contemplating his next action.
I don't see how this can be a positive thing. First, it doesn't seem very smart, as you'll inevitably be giving something away, the more you move around in view of your opponent while he's staring you down. Second, it seems like a very shady thing to do to try and distract your opponent, or worse to try to get away from his stare. I mean, the Unabomber's shell is bad enough, but now people are okay with just leaving the room?
What's to stop these guys from just getting up and walking over to a corner and staring at the wall, or worse yet going behind the curtain near the stage? How can that be fair?
I think they should have some kind of boundary around the final table, like velvet ropes or something, that the players are not allowed to leave. Go ahead and celebrate by yourself, or stand up while someone is all in, or even take a walk around the table while thinking... but don't go 50+ feet away and make a big production out of everything.
Far too much "Hollywood", even from the calmer players. Anytime the cameraman has to follow you around, you're probably moving too far away from the table.
