agree with both parts. i think using swear words unnecessarily (so not when you drop something on your foot or forgot something important, but just smattered through sentences or as adjectives) is really vulgar and implies stupidity.
i also think c*nt is a really nasty word, but i hate words like vag (pronounced vaj) and pussy, too. it makes me uncomfortable just to type them!
