So, essentially they use them for the reason that a truck driver or rock star would. Actually what I was thinking about was that whatever effect of staying sharp baseball players would get, cricketers would also benefit from, since they stay out in the field much longer (2-3 hours at a time without a break), and an "at bat" can take a full day. It made me wonder if there's a hidden speed culture in cricket.
Also, why does this amphetamine epidemic exist in baseball (cycling also has this problem) and not, say the NHL or NBA, where the season is also quite long and the games are perhaps more physically demanding than baseball games. Is it just part of the culture of baseball and the fact that they have been historically lax in testing?
