The ugly and most direct answer is, "What are you getting out of this behavior that makes it worth it?"
Do you feel vindicated, is it a monetary form of a beating, etc? Those questions are rhetorical, do not reply, but hopefully you see where the idea is coming from?
You are giving yourself something, some feeling that makes it worth it to you to do this. Perhaps it is why you play poker because you can do this without hurting yourself or others?
Once you decide you know why you do this, then you can decide if you wish to continue with this behavior or not. Perhaps giving back some of the money is well worth the payoff you are giving yourself.
