McGwire and Sosa didn't really get hated until they went to Congress where they appeared weak and cowardly.
Nobody cared about McGwire when they found andro.
Nobody cared about Sosa when he corked his bat.
I realize they were both biggish stories, but they faded away and the media wasn't not nearly as indignant when the stories broke.
