This is exactly it. The death of racism is when you stop thinking about race as an important way to categorize people. The categories of people in this story are educated versus uneducated. Stories about small incidents of racism remind people that you can categorize by race, and then everyone remembers what team they are supposed to be on.

Then again, it's important that incidents of racism are frowned upon and considered unacceptable. In this case, some lady bowed. Now, the term "racism" generally connotes that you consider another culture inferior. In this case I guess that the OP implies that said lady looks down on him because she thinks that he comes from a culture where people tend to bow. Well that's not really an insult. Or maybe it is irksome that she is implying that a complete stranger may not be in tune with common American courtesies to strangers. Yes, that sounds more like it. Her behavior is irritating. It wreaks of lack of education, she must be one of those uneducated sort.
