Should I try to publish more of my writing? If so, why?
It's a double-edged sword. For some, the act of publishing or trying to get published inspires them to write more. For others, it burns them out or makes them results-oriented.
That having been said, do it. It's worthwhile as a motivating factor, a source of modest income and a way to receive feedback, whether from editors or from an actual reading public. If you're not good enough to get published you'll never improve without rejection and its attendant reevaluations.
Now, if I could get my children's books to a lit agent, I'd be a happy man, but I'm incredibly lazy.
