Re: Transformers pre-screen factoid report
Good movie.
Could have been 30-45 minutes shorter.
The one-liners were funny but they sometimes dragged them out WAY too long (like the whole "were you masturbating" shtick).
John Turturro actually managed to suck for the first time in his career.
"They don't deserve to live." "But they deserve to have the choice!" have officially become the dumbest line in 2007
But most importantly: what the hell is his obsession with low angle close-up slow-motion shots?!!! I THINK that the action sequences were really bad ass, but I'm not too sure since all I could see were DORITOS XTREME close-ups of feet, faces, guns and explosions.
Michael Bay is good at letting the audience know what is going on while making sure they don't see it. Throughout the movie all I could think was: "Ok, that's Optimus flying down the side of a building, now if the camera was pushed back just a little and stopped shaking around i think i could actually see how cool it looks"
It's like Charlie said, if Michael Bay would have Directed Jurassic Park it still would have been enjoyable and successful but not nearly as great. Action sequences like the T-Rex chasing the jeep would have been less thrilling and more of a giant foot slamming into the ground right next to the camera, then a jaw clamping on a jeep, then a witty line, then a cutaway to a little kid and a mother freaking out and saying something funny, then a dinosaur foot slamming into the ground, then...ad nauseum.
Another thing. Did anybody else think that the non-orchestral songs were completely out of place? Like when Michelle Fox says: "I'll drive, you shoot" to Bumblebee and she rolls out with the tow-truck right when a rock song kicks in. The only song that seemed to work was the racing sequence between Bumblebee and the police car.

also, when the 4,000 piece of junk car turns into the super fly ride in the tunnel, it comes up to the boy and the girl while that song used in kill bill is playing. badass yellow car getting introduced = uma in badass yellow suit walking into the restaurant to kill oren?

Didn't think about that. Either way I couldn't help but think how much better Tarantino uses songs in his movies. His sequence is an artful piece of pimpocity; Bay's is a generic commercial.
