I've found that OSX on it's surface is designed to be an idiot-proof OS, but it's backend is incredibly robust.

I consider myself a PC power user that is constantly tinkering, and I don't feel at all controlled by OSX.

Exactly. Anyone who says that OS X is childish and controlling just has no idea what they're talking about. Apple's blended ease of use with incredible power, and with Parallels letting you do whatever you need in Windows, there's really no reason not to at least give it a try...
