I have to say that it didn't ring true to me either. Most jewish congregations contain rather more than their fair share of smart, well educated people. It's hard to imagine that somebody could not only learn enough Hebrew in a month, but could also learn enough theology to get through a full service without raising suspicion. I suppose somebody could just write this stuff and have you recite it parrot fashion -- possibly also the hebrew component, but that would be harder.
Also, how would one satisfy the terms of the bet? If you just stood up there for an hour but the congregation weren't even slightly convinced, do you win? How do you measure the extent to which the congregation *were* convinced?

He wrote it was the morning Minyan service so that could easily be just 10 adults. Plus, it's a reform shul so there may not be many people who attend the Minyan services.
