BobT-That sounds great. Never had been Muskie or Pike fishing but your outing soudns pertty good there. I hear that Walleye are good eating, is that right?

The best part of the group that I go with on this trip, is that everyone does their part, so the cooking/cleaning/and maintenance all gets done without any issues. So we just eat/fish/eat/drink/tell_lies/sleep, get up and do it again for a week, and it is a nice break from everything else.
Walleye, are good eating, and if you are adept with a filet knife, I believe that pike are indistinguishable by taste. And most fishing management almost coddles walleye populations, and treats pike like rough fish, plus a medium sized pike (26") produces about the same amount of meat as 4 walleyes that are in the keepable slot for walleyes >17.5 inches.
I also think it is a lot more fun to catch fish that are 6-20 pounds than ones that are 1-4 pounds . Not to mention that dealing with the apex predators, is just cool. Muskies are WAY BAD, and they know it. Nothing in the water is going to mess with them, but they can mess with anything that they choose to. One of the guys had a 15" smallmouth on his line, and a very big muskie came up and hit it like a snack, and when my friend finally got the smallmouth in, it was shredded, and bleeding, they let it go, and while it was swimming off, the muskie came in and grabbed it. I also had a muskie try and grab a 24" pike that I was playing, but it missed and dissappeared.
I would estimate that we probably saw about 5 fish a day that were at least 40" in length, and nothing I can write really can communicate what that is like, until you experience it.
