I'm wondering if somewhere in here you made some kind of sub-concious hand-gesture that they mistook as an all-in or a call or something.
I see these people fiddling with their chips or hands all the time completely not realizing that they look like they are indicating a check.
Just the simplest little wave of the cards towards the dealer right before you were about to muck them could have been misconstrued as a call.
I mean, it's pretty strange that even your opponent seemed to think you had called as well.
For this situation, I don't think it's right to freeroll here.
Taking the chips if you won but then getting the floor involved if you lost. Should have stopped and said that you never called and you were about to fold...here's your $12.
