I hate to break it to you, but you haven't found their base. You haven't even found a forward listening post.
Face it, they're smarter than we are, and they'll be around long after we're gone. If you'd killed that one, you would have only helped their cause by weeding out their version of a Downie. I mean... what self-respecting roach is dumb enough to be spotted and killed by a human?
