Re: The 10 college players I was most wrong about

uhh.. Tayshaun. That's not really close. Rip's got an awesome mid range game (the curl screen mostly), but he's also got range. Despite leading the league in 3P% in '05-'06, that's not his strength, but he's very good 18-20 feet out. Tayshaun's most effective offensive play is backing guys in and that little lefty baby hook in the lane.
You definitely could have found a better example than DET.

You say that the defining characteristic of a 2 is a long range game, while a 3 plays closer to the basket. For their careers, almost 20% of Tayshaun's shots have been 3's, compared to 9% for Rip, and Tayshaun's shot 40 percentage points greater from 3. Yet, you say that a shooting guard has a better long range game than a small forward, and also that it's also crystal clear that Rip is the shooting guard and Tayshaun is the small forward. I think that bolsters Assani's point that the 2 and the 3 are pretty much interchangeable offensively and cater their style of play not to some rigid definition of what a guard should do versus a forward but instead whatever is tailored to their specific strengths. It's defensively where a greater distinction is made.
