Re: Beat: People think I\'m a Bum. BBV, help me Brag?

Jman,
The way people react to your profession has a lot more to do with the image you project than with poker itself. I'm back in school now, but even when I was taking time off I got overwhelmingly positive responses. If you're embarrassed, of course people will assume you're a lowlife with one foot in the gutter. If act like you dropped out of college because you had more lucrative and interesting things to do, then that's what people will believe. People who have had a friend destroy themselves gambling will take more convincing, but poker is fairly trendy right now and lots of people our age, including girls, have a casual interest.
Do not under any circumstances talk numbers. This is utterly classless, reeks of insecurity, and will alienate most people our age who did not make 21k before breakfast. If you want people to know you're successful, then dress well and buy nice things.
