I would suggest starting at small stakes, wether limit or no limit is your game, but 2k should be enough to handle any variance you see at .5/1 games and various expenses. The reason I say small stakes and not micro is that micro tends to be really really poor play and you might develop some bad characteristics trying to beat it, its best to have opponents who at the least, are at the tables to win (despite how poorly they do it). A 2001fp was suggested earlier, and I agree with it because, 1. its easy on the eyes, 2. its useful for everything, and 3. 3-4 tabling is minimal for any serious online player.
Other than that, read up and study your play.
