Given that, calling down does make more sense... Does it help that I was prepared to fold to a 3-bet? Or am I missing something else entirely?

flop - call with the intention of looking to raise the turn.
Turn - call.
As played - I dont mind checking through on the river because he called down in the face of extreme aggression, but against some opponents I am betting 100% for sure.
