Default Re: Several Hotshots Supposedly Broke Or In Debt

IMO the poker world has turned into the WWF (WWE). It is a microcosm of what the media can do to anything that becomes the “latest” thing (i.e. wwf). Right now it seems there are many “pros” vying to be the next Parris Hilton of the poker world. It is no surprise that a large majority of the “pros” are busto. I think fame has seduced them and they have lost sight of the fact that in the end they are in this to MAKE MONEY, today I think they are often in it to have the most TV time (which in 10 years won’t get them a burger). Ha Ha Ha, look at me lose $10K betting on nothing, look at me spending $25K a month on nothing, LOOK AT ME, PLEASE JUST LOOK AT ME. Mostly I just see them bleed off their money. I personally can’t imagine Doyle B or Barry G betting who can eat more Fajitas in a sitting.

I started playing in casinos and reading books about 15 years ago. Poker pros were mostly grumpy old guys who lingered around the casinos looking to take pots off of unsuspecting newbies (TJ and Sam G types come to mind). The rise of the ESPN poker superstar has thrown a new breed into the limelight (Phil L and Tony G come to mind). Jumping around the table, antics, yelling and screaming are now commonplace.

In a couple years it will be tragic to see the bodies strewn around the poker community. You think there won’t be regret? You think the idea that millions were pissed away won’t be haunting some of these guys?

If you read between the lines of the original post it is a bit of a cautionary tale. Be careful of what you are trying to be, these players may not be everything that you think they are.

In the end that is why I have quite a bit of respect for many of the “pro” posters here (i.e. TStoneMDB). Getting better at poker seems to be their main goal, so they can drag more pots, so they can make more money as opposed to coming up with a new shtick to get them more “air time”.

Just my 2 cents but what the [censored] do I know.
