In the villian's eyes the flop c-bet means nothing - we could have two random paints, an over-pair or ace high. he may have continued with a similar range. checking the turn disguises our hand and may lead him to value bet underpairs on the river, or pay us off with worse aces.

It also looks like the ace is a scare card for our hand, so we may induce bluffs from hands that would not otherwise have bluffed us.
